Parents of newly admitted students at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, have expressed concern over what they describe as an unbearable increase in school fees. In a statement addressed to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the parents warned that many students may be forced to abandon their studies if urgent intervention is not made.
They explained that tuition for Medicine, Surgery, and Dentistry, which stood at ₦1.68 million for indigenes last session, has been raised to ₦2 million. Non-indigenes, who previously paid ₦2.24 million, will now pay ₦2.6 million. The figures exclude additional charges, such as ₦20,000 for Post-UTME forms and ₦100,000 for the acceptance fee.
The parents argued that the increase comes at a time when families are already struggling with economic hardship. They said that the school fees hike was unfair and called on the state government to intervene immediately to save students from dropping out.
