Police Probe Death of Woman Found Near Yobe University Fence

Police in Yobe State have opened an investigation into the death of a woman whose body was found near the fence of the Federal University Gashua in Bade Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim said the incident was reported on October 17 by a resident, Yusuf Sarkin Baka, from Sabon Daula Ward. He said Yusuf informed officers that a woman’s body was discovered early that morning near the university’s perimeter fence.

A police team from the Gashua Division arrived promptly for an on-the-spot investigation and identified the victim as 45-year-old Falmata Abubakar, a resident of Abasha, Sarkin Hausawa Ward. She was found wearing a black hijab. Her body was taken to the Specialist Hospital in Gashua, where doctors confirmed she was dead. After an autopsy, her remains were released to her family for burial according to Islamic rites.

Preliminary findings suggest the woman was transported in a vehicle and dumped about two kilometres from her home. Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado said the command had intensified efforts to track down those responsible, assuring that a thorough investigation would be carried out. He urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with the police by providing any helpful information about the case.
