The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has announced that all polytechnic graduates must now obtain an Industrial Training (IT) Certificate before they can go for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
This was made known by the NBTE Director of SIWES/NYSC Liaison, Mallam Dauda Baba Halah, during an accreditation exercise. He said the aim is to ensure students gain real work experience related to their course of study. He advised polytechnics to enhance their training facilities with improved equipment and enhanced safety measures. He also recommended that students use proper logbooks and that SIWES information should be included in their handbooks. Mallam Dauda added that SIWES coordinators should serve for only two years to allow others to take part. The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Engr. Temitope Alake thanked the NBTE and promised to upgrade the training office and include SIWES in the new student handbook.
