Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, has pledged collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Creative Media Sector Skills Council to integrate digital and creative media standards into the country’s broadcast and information sector.
Speaking in Abuja during a courtesy visit by NBTE leadership, Idris said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises skills and technology development.
He commended NBTE’s efforts in advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), particularly through the Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework. He praised the establishment of the Creative Media Sector Skills Council.
“The creative media sector is brimming with talent but lacks structured pathways for certification and alignment with industry standards. Well-trained and certified professionals will improve broadcast content, combat misinformation, and strengthen Nigeria’s image globally,” the Minister said.
NBTE Executive Secretary, Prof Idris Bugaje, highlighted the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) scheme as vital for certifying informally trained practitioners.
He said the Council would engage both public institutions and the private sector to standardise skills, boost employment, and reposition Nigeria’s education system towards practical, hands-on training.
Chairman of the Council, Fatima Abubakar, emphasised that over 70% of its membership comprises the private sector, ensuring industry-led participation. She noted that the initiative will provide clear pathways for professional growth, integrate NSQF benchmarks, and prepare graduates to meet global standards.
