President Tinubu Completes Appointment of University of Abuja Governing Council Members

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of new members to the Governing Council of the University of Abuja, officially completing the list of external members for the Council.

The newly appointed members are Professor Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan (South-South), Dr Adedeji Adefuye (Southwest), Professor Sarki Abba Abdulkadir (North-West), and Professor Aminu Mohammed Dukku (North-East). This update follows the President’s dissolution of the University’s Governing Council and the removal of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi, on February 6, 2025. He later appointed Dr Olanrewaju Tejuoso as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council and Professor Patricia Manko Lar as the Acting Vice-Chancellor.

According to a statement released on May 27, 2025, by presidential spokesperson Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President also filled vacant council positions in two other universities — the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU). The new council members for UNN are Rt. Hon. Barr. Ogbonna Eugene Odo (South-East) and Muhammad Inuwa Tahir (North-West). For NAU, the new members are Dr Nkem Okeke, Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala (both from the South-East), Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa (North-West), and Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade (Southwest).

In her reaction, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Patricia Manko Lar, thanked President Tinubu for appointing members to the University’s Governing Council. She also promised to work closely with the newly appointed Council, led by Dr Tejuoso, to move the university forward and achieve its goals.
