There is a new leader in the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) as Professor Omeh Obasi Ngwoke has been elected as the new Chairman of the chapter.
The change in leadership took place during an extraordinary ASUU Congress held at the Union’s Secretariat on campus. Professor Ngwoke took over from the former Chairman, Professor Uzoma Darlington Chima, in an election described as peaceful and transparent.
Members were pleased with the smoothness of the process. They said it showed that ASUU Uniport is united and mature. Professor Ngwoke, a renowned teacher and scholar, has received numerous congratulations from his fellow lecturers and colleagues at the university. Many people believe that with him as the new leader, the union will become stronger and continue to stand up for the rights and needs of university staff.
He is expected to continue pushing for the progress of both the union and the University of Port Harcourt. Other newly elected members of the ASUU Uniport Executive Committee were also congratulated, with calls for teamwork and cooperation among them to help move the union forward.
