Redeemer’s University has appointed 11 academics to the rank of professor, marking the largest single batch of professorial promotions in the institution’s history.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, announced the appointments during the university’s Covenant Hour service on September 2 2025. The promotions were ratified by the university council following the 61st Statutory Meeting of the Appointment and Promotion Committee held on August 26.
Prof. Akindele described the milestone as a moment of pride, saying it reflected the university’s commitment to academic excellence. He noted that each candidate’s work had been assessed by external scholars of international standing, ensuring a transparent and merit-based process.
“One thing I am glad to say is this: before you become a professor, your publications are sent to external assessors. Moreover, I made up my mind that I was going to handle it personally,” he said. He added that one assessor commended the process for its fairness, underscoring the institution’s adherence to global academic standards.
The promotions are expected to strengthen the university’s teaching and research profile and contribute to its ongoing growth in higher education.
