Niger State is investing N5 billion to reopen the Nigerian College of Aviation mini campus at Minna’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, a move aimed at reducing the high costs of sending students abroad for aviation training.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago said on Tuesday that the project would provide local training opportunities in flight, air traffic control, aeronautical telecommunications, and aviation management. “This initiative will cut down many expenses for families and government alike,” he said.
The mini campus, which has been dormant for years, is part of a broader plan to make Minna a hub for both aviation and agriculture. Dr Danjuma Adamu Ismail, rector of the college, said its reopening would strengthen personnel training and boost agro-aviation projects.
Bago also inspected airport housing and fuel facilities, announcing plans to replace outdated units with a modern estate to address the state’s accommodation deficit.
Officials say the initiative will create local opportunities for young Nigerians in aviation while supporting economic growth, signalling a shift from dependence on overseas training to homegrown aviation education.
