305 Trainees Graduate from Centre for Marine, Offshore Technology In Rivers
The Centre for Marine and Offshore Technology Development (CMOTD) at Rivers State University has graduated its first cohort of 305 trainees.
The four-month programme, in partnership with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, covered seven core courses across four specialised disciplines, including Industrial Ship Design, Process Pipe Stress Analysis, Big Data Analytics, Transformer Repair, Class Welding, Automation, and Oil Well Optimisation.
Speaking at the graduation, CMOTD CEO Vitalis Ahiakwo described the centre as “a hub of innovation and applied excellence,” committed to bridging the gap between academia and industry. He highlighted the programme’s role in building the human capital needed to drive Nigeria’s blue economy and enhance local industry capabilities.
Ahiakwo urged graduands to go beyond adapting to technological change, encouraging them to become innovators, problem-solvers, and ambassadors of Nigeria’s marine and offshore expertise.
Elakpa Augustine, Head of Research and Development and Training Coordinator, emphasised the centre’s alignment with Industry 5.0 standards, ensuring curricula remain current with global codes, emerging technologies, and academic findings. He pledged continued investment in training and R&D to maintain CMOTD’s cutting-edge offerings.
The pioneer graduates now leave the centre equipped with competitive, industry-ready skills to support Nigeria’s maritime and energy sectors.
