The Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) Project, an initiative of the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, has extended its Back-to-School Campaign to Unguwan Shanu, Kaduna North Local Government Area.
ROOSC, inaugurated on Tuesday, Jun. 17, 2025, plans to create awareness in Kaduna communities about the project and encourage parents and guardians to return their children and wards to school. Mr. Ezra Angai, ROOSC’s Project Coordinator, stated that the campaign aims to make quality education accessible to all children. He added that 102 schools will be constructed, and 170 existing ones will undergo renovation.
Kabir Lawal, Director of the Social Mobilisation Department at the State Universal Basic Education Board, stated that the campaign would continue and be incorporated into the state’s education budget. “In our annual budget, we have made provisions for this type of campaign, and it will now be conducted at the beginning of every academic session”, he said.
Alhaji Nura Ibrahim, Village Head of Unguwan Shanu, commended the government’s efforts in encouraging children to return to school. He also implored the government to tackle poverty as it contributes to educational exclusion. The ROOSC Project targets 200,000 out-of-school children and aims to support teachers and students with 500,000 teaching and learning materials.
