Rivers State University (RSU) has honoured Emeritus Professor Dagogo Fubara, the first African Professor of Geodesy, for his significant contributions to the Niger Delta and national development.
Speaking at a book presentation held to mark Fubara’s 87th birthday and 60th wedding anniversary, RSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Zeb-Obipi, praised the professor’s role in solving environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development. Professor Fubara played a key role in surveying routes for the trans-Niger crude oil pipelines, one of Nigeria’s most significant economic assets.
RSU noted that Fubara helped establish the university and served as a Special Adviser to former Governor Melford Okilo. During that time, he championed the dredging of creeks and canals to reduce flooding and environmental problems in the region. The university said Fubara’s legacy shows true leadership goes beyond wealth; it’s about building the future.
