The Schneider Electric Foundation has equipped the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) with specialised training equipment and technical capacity-building sessions to enhance students’ practical skills in energy management.
The initiative, part of Schneider Electric’s Access to Education programme in West Africa, aims to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry application. Students in electrical and engineering disciplines now have access to customised didactic benches for domestic wiring and industrial motor starter applications.
Prof. Matthew Olubiwe, Head of FUTO’s Electrical Engineering Department, praised the intervention, saying it significantly enhances hands-on learning and strengthens teaching capacity.
Funmilayo Olakitan, Schneider Electric Foundation Delegate for West Africa, noted that the programme exposes students to modern tools and technologies relevant to the energy sector, preparing them for both local and global opportunities.
The Foundation has previously supported technical colleges in Lagos. It plans to continue investing in Nigerian youth, aiming to equip future engineers and entrepreneurs to contribute meaningfully to the continent’s energy transition.
