Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu, has gifted the best-graduating student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), a fully sponsored slot for the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia.
The beneficiary, Abdullahi Sherif, emerged as the overall best student with a remarkable 4.92 CGPA from the Department of Microbiology. The announcement was made during the university’s 42nd convocation ceremony on Saturday.
Governor Aliyu, himself an alumnus of UDUS, stated that the reward was intended to celebrate Abdullahi’s academic excellence and inspire other students to strive for higher goals. He also praised the university’s contributions to education in Nigeria and beyond.
Beyond the gift, the governor highlighted his administration’s ongoing support for education, including the payment of N1.845 billion in outstanding tuition fees for Sokoto medical students at home and abroad, the appointment of UDUS professors to key state roles, and the renovation of schools across the state.
The gesture by the Sokoto State Governor has been hailed as both an encouragement for academic excellence and a boost for youth development in Sokoto.
