Graduating students of Kadwel International Schools, Kaduna, have called on the government and Nigerians to support education for out-of-school children urgently.
Speaking at the school’s third graduation ceremony, tagged “The Class of Truth,” Head Boy Sudais Bashir said education is a right that every Nigerian child deserves. He urged the government to provide free, quality education, build more schools, and support poor families. Head Girl Sarah Madu said that technology should be used to make learning easier and more accessible to children. Another graduating student, Perida Darby, added that the government should spend more money on education and fully enforce the Child’s Rights Act.
The two students made these points while reacting to a recent UNICEF report, which says about 18.3 million children in Nigeria are not in school. Many of them are out of school because of poverty, insecurity, and cultural beliefs. Both students also took time to thank their school, teachers, and parents for their help and support. They promised to carry the good values they learned in school into the next stage of their lives.
