The Ogun State Government has confirmed that Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun has not been renamed. This clarification comes after rumours claimed the school’s name was changed to honour the late Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland.
Speaking on the issue, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Strategy, stated that there is already a school named after the monarch – the Sikiru Kayode Adetona College of Education, Science, and Technology, located in Omu.
He explained that the Tai Solarin University of Education was established in 2005 and remains unchanged. Akinmade added that while Governor Abiodun praised the late monarch during his funeral, he never announced any change to the university’s name. The government also reminded the public that the university is now under the control of the Federal Government, and no name change has been approved.
