Lecturers at Taraba State University, under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), say they may go on strike again if the state government does not meet their demands soon.
The union accuses Governor Agbu Kefas of breaking an agreement reached on January 17, 2025. Part of the deal was for the government to start paying ₦50 million monthly from February to settle Earned Academic Allowances owed to the lecturers.
ASUU Chairman, Dr Joshua Mbave Garba, said not a single payment has been made. He described the situation as a “breach of trust” and warned that the government’s inaction was testing the union’s patience. The lecturers say the university is poorly funded and cannot operate effectively. They insist the government must keep its word or risk another strike that could disrupt academic activities.
