The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has commissioned a 244-bed female hostel at Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, Rivers State, at a cost of over N1.39 billion.
The project was commissioned by Aboh Uduyok, the South-South representative on the TETFund Board of Trustees. In a statement, he described the hostel as “a demonstration of prudent resource management and a shared commitment to transforming Nigeria’s tertiary education sector,” adding that it reflects the agency’s drive to enhance infrastructure in beneficiary institutions.
TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, represented by Engr. Samson Imoni, praised the polytechnic’s management for integrity and discipline in handling public funds. Rector Dr Ledum Gwarah said the facility would improve student welfare, noting it would encourage female students to remain on campus and focus on their studies in a safe environment.
Meanwhile, UNICEF has warned that children in North-East Nigeria continue to face severe risks, including malnutrition, lack of education, and gender-based violence. Joseph Senesie, Officer-in-Charge of UNICEF Maiduguri, spoke at the 2025 World Children’s Day event, calling for renewed investment in child protection and education under this year’s theme, “My Day, My Rights.”
The events highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen both education infrastructure and child welfare in Nigeria.
