The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has signed a new partnership with Estonia’s Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) to boost research, academic exchange, and staff and student development.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, highlighted the collaboration during the opening of the 3rd International Conference of Environmental Sciences (ICES 2025) on Wednesday, November 12. He said the agreement reflects growing cooperation between the Global South and North and is key to advancing teaching, research, and innovation.
The conference, themed “Evolving Technologies for Sustainable Futures: Integrating Construction Vocational Training and Workforce Development for the Built Environment”, brought together researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals.
Prof. Emlyn Witt of TalTech delivered the keynote, examining emerging global technologies for energy-efficient and sustainable construction. Prof. Henry Agboola Odeyinka of Obafemi Awolowo University also discussed workforce training and sustainable national development.
The Dean of UNILORIN’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Ganiyu Amuda-Yusuf, said the collaboration will foster capacity building, technology transfer, and new perspectives in environmental research and vocational education.
Participants expressed optimism that the partnership would open opportunities for students and staff, strengthen the university’s international profile, and contribute to sustainable infrastructure development in Nigeria and beyond.
