A new investigation has shown long delays in school projects funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in Nigerian institutions. At the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, some projects approved as early as 2014 were not finished until 2025—more than 10 years later.
Nigeria Education News reported that several buildings under the 2014, 2016, 2020, and 2023 TETFund interventions are either unfinished or have just been recently completed, with many still lacking furniture, power, or internet. The worst case was a structure under the “2014–2016 Annual Intervention,” which took nearly 11 years to finish.
Staff attributed the long delays to bureaucracy, inadequate monitoring, and a lack of accountability from both TETFund and school management. Many say these issues are common across Nigeria’s public universities and colleges, where abandoned or stalled projects are now the norm.
The report has sparked renewed calls for improved supervision and transparency in the handling of education funds.
