Three FUPRE Scholars Make World’s Top 2% Scientists List

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) has cemented Nigeria’s presence in global research, as Prof. Olusegun Samuel, Dr Modestus Okwu, and Dr Elias Elemike were named among the world’s top 2 per cent scientists in the 2025 Stanford University-Elsevier Global Ranking.


Vice-Chancellor Prof Ezekiel Agbalagba described the recognition as a milestone, reflecting Nigeria’s capacity for high-impact research. Olusegun, an expert in Energy and Thermofluid Systems, attributed the honour to mentorship, collaboration, and divine guidance, highlighting his work in sustainable energy and clean technologies.


Okwu, a Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor, was recognised for pioneering research in Robotics, Energy and Digital Technologies, combining AI, automation, and renewable energy to tackle real-world challenges. Elemike, a Nanomaterials Chemist, noted that his inclusion validates years of focused research with over 100 publications across energy, environment, medicine, and agriculture.


The Stanford-Elsevier ranking evaluates researchers using citation metrics, h-index, co-authorship, and authorship positions across 22 fields and 174 subfields, identifying those in the top 2% globally.
