Dr S. Abdollah Mirbozorg

Dr S. Abdollah Mirbozorgi, an associate professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has received two NIH R01 grants totalling $2.4 million for projects with significant clinical potential.

One project, funded by the National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health ($1.2 million), aims to develop an implantable device to study diabetes progression and explore potential reversal.

The second, supported by the NIH’s National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute ($1.2 million), focuses on creating an AI-assisted “smart pacifier” to monitor infant breathing and vital signs.
