Ukana Polytechnic Prepares Students with Skills, Rector Says

Mrs. Eduma Enobong Essien, Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Akwa Ibom State

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Eduma Enobong Essien, has highlighted her administration’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with both academic knowledge and practical skills.

Speaking on Redemption FM’s Close-Up Show, Essien stated that the institution is no longer focused solely on certificates but on competence, purpose and global relevance. She emphasised that students graduate with a “dual advantage” of academic certification and hands-on skills.

The polytechnic has received full approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to issue globally recognised certifications to artisans who complete its skills-acquisition programmes.

Essien also secured accreditation for 19 academic programmes within her first three months in office, crediting the achievement to teamwork and strong foundations laid by her predecessor.

She further lauded the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for sponsoring staff training, which she described as essential for sustainable institutional growth.

Essien affirmed that Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, is on a path to becoming a leading centre for technological innovation, vocational training, and entrepreneurship in Nigeria.
