Prof. Offiong Offiong has been appointed the 12th substantive Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) to succeed Prof. Florence Obi, whose tenure ends on December 1, 2025.
His appointment was announced on Thursday, October 30, 2025, following a selection process led by Mr Ekpo Udom, the Chairman of the Governing Council.
Offiong began his academic career in 1985, following his national service year as a graduate assistant in the chemistry department.
Newsmen reported that he became a professor of coordination/inorganic chemistry in 2002.
The Vice-Chancellor serves as an editorial board member for various journals, including the Global Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences, the Journal of Applied Agricultural Research, and the Journal of Applied Sciences.
