WAEC Opens 2025 Second Series Registration as Digital Payment Platforms Expand Access

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has opened registration for its 2025 Second Series examinations for private candidates. Candidates can purchase registration PINs through approved digital payment platforms nationwide. The registration window, which opened on June 30, will run until August 22, 2025. According to WAEC, candidates are required to complete their registration at any accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre after purchasing the registration PIN online or via designated payment channels.

Among the platforms facilitating this year’s process is Remita, a widely used payment gateway that has partnered with WAEC for over a decade to simplify examination registration. Students can access the platform through www.remita.net/waec or via affiliated bank branches.

Chinedu Alisa, Head of Enterprise Assets at Remita, said the company has continued to invest in infrastructure to support nationwide access to examination-related payments. “Every seamless transaction helps a candidate move one step closer to their future goals,” he said.

Digital platforms have increasingly played a central role in education financing in Nigeria, mainly as more students and schools rely on remote and mobile solutions. In rural or underserved areas, access to reliable registration systems remains a critical factor in ensuring that no candidate is left behind. Education experts note that the increased adoption of technology in examination registration is improving accessibility and reducing the delays and complications that often arise with manual payment systems.

A WAEC official, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the Council has strengthened its partnerships with multiple fintech providers to ensure this year’s process is efficient and secure. “Our goal is to ensure that every eligible candidate, regardless of location, can register without unnecessary obstacles,” the official said. The 2025 Second Series is essential for private candidates seeking to improve past results or gain eligibility for higher education.
