Dr. Oluwatobi Moody, WIPO’s Director for Nigeria
The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) has inaugurated a Technology and Innovation Support Centre (TISC) at the University of Ibadan. The launch took place on November 4 2025, during the University’s Research and Development Fair (UIRESDEV).
Dr Oluwatobi Moody, WIPO’s Director for Nigeria and an alumnus of the University’s Faculty of Law, led the inauguration and donated the TISC facility. The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), Professor Oluyemisi Bamgbose, who represented Vice-Chancellor Professor K. O. Adebowale.
Professor Bamgbose said the University would develop the centre into a hub for technology and innovation support, serving as a model for other institutions in Nigeria and beyond. The centre, initially selected by WIPO in 2022, had not been formally commissioned until now.
TISCs aim to bridge the gap between research and commercialisation, providing innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs with tools, expertise, and resources to transform ideas into market-ready products. They also support the protection and management of intellectual property.
Globally, WIPO promotes TISCs through training, resources, and networking, helping strengthen innovation ecosystems and foster collaboration across universities, research institutions, and business support organisations.
