Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has stated that developing Nigeria’s education system is expensive and requires the support of stakeholders beyond the government.
The governor spoke in Ilorin during the presentation of full scholarships to 12 outstanding pupils from public schools under the Kwara State Education Trust Fund (Kwara-ETF). The awards will cover the beneficiaries’ secondary school education.
AbdulRazaq urged wealthy individuals, foundations, and members of the public to support school funding by donating to infrastructure or sponsoring deserving students. “Educating our children is our collective responsibility. Government alone cannot fully fund education, so the trust fund is there to fill in the gaps,” he said.
He described the selection process as transparent and praised the beneficiaries for their performance. He added that the state government would continue to contribute to the trust fund and monitor the progress of the beneficiaries up to university level.
