Airtel Africa Foundation has rewarded two Nigerian university students – Terence Ifeanyichukwu and Ali Usman Mohammed – with full scholarships to study technology courses like Artificial Intelligence at Plaksha University in India.
According to the foundation, the scholarship is part of the Airtel Africa Fellowship, which was launched in 2024 to support young Africans who are brilliant but lack financial means to further their education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The Chairman of Airtel Africa Foundation, Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, said the aim is to raise the next generation of African tech leaders. In his words, “we want to give young Africans world-class skills that will help them change their communities and the world.”
Plaksha University managed the selection process. From many applicants across Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, and Tanzania, 21 were shortlisted, and 13 got to the final interview. Ultimately, the two available admission slots were filled by Nigerians. This is seen as a significant win for Nigeria’s rapidly growing tech sector.
