Anambra Doctors Issue 72-hour Ultimatum Over Abducted Neurosurgeon

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Anambra State has given Governor Charles Soludo and security agencies 72 hours to secure the release of Dr Tochukwu Mbanugo, a consultant neurosurgeon kidnapped on October 30.

In a communiqué signed by NMA chairman Princeston Okam and secretary Obiaeli Ifeanyi after an emergency meeting on Saturday, the association said Dr Mbanugo was abducted in front of his hospital at Uruagu, Nnewi.

According to the NMA, the abductors have yet to contact the victim’s family, colleagues, or friends, raising serious concerns for his safety.
The association warned that if the deadline expires without his release, doctors across Anambra would suspend all medical services until the situation is resolved.

“All doctors under the aegis of NMA Anambra will down tools if our colleague is not freed,” the communiqué stated, adding that an emergency meeting would be convened to review developments.

The NMA reaffirmed its commitment to quality healthcare delivery but urged the state government to act decisively against rising insecurity targeting medical professionals.
