The management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has denied claims that it plans to scrap specific courses or shut down certain faculties and departments. The university described the allegations made by the Bauchi State Concerned Citizens group as “unfounded and a figment of imagination.”
Speaking at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), ATBU’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, clarified that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibrahim Hassan Garba has no intention of discontinuing any faculty, course, or programme. “There are basically two issues in the text of the press conference by the Bauchi State Concerned Citizens. None of the allegations is true because the Vice-Chancellor did not do any such thing,” Bappa stated.
He further explained that the Federal Government, through the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, had recently directed all universities to realign with their original mandates; however, this does not translate into scrapping existing faculties or programmes at ATBU.
