Niger State Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago, has blamed the rising cases of thuggery and youth unrest on the breakdown of moral upbringing and lack of proper parental guidance.
The Governor, represented by APC chieftain Jonathan Vatsa, spoke at the Nupe Christian Fellowship International Conference held in Bida. He stressed the need for religious institutions to play a key role in restoring lost values among the youth. As part of efforts to tackle social vices, Governor Bago announced the reintroduction of Christian and Islamic Religious Studies in all public schools across the state.
According to him, the policy aims to instil discipline and godly virtues in students through education and character-building.
Governor Bago also restated his administration’s commitment to promoting religious harmony, assuring that all faiths would continue to enjoy equal rights in the state.
In his remarks, Jacob Tsado, President of the Fellowship, commended the Governor for his leadership style and the development strides recorded under his watch.
