Bauchi Assembly Backs Almajiri, Out-of-School Children Reforms

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has pledged to domesticate the law establishing the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children in the state.

Speaker Abubakar Suleiman committed to the commission’s maiden annual general meeting in Kano. Represented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Dr Nasiru Ala, he said the Assembly had already taken steps to strengthen Almajiri education and tackle the problem of out-of-school children.

He pointed to motions and bills introduced in the chamber, including one urging the state government to integrate literacy, numeracy and vocational skills into the Qur’anic and Tsangaya curriculum.

The speaker added that the legislature had been advancing the implementation of the Child Rights Law as part of wider education reforms. He said the AGM created a platform for dialogue among federal, state and local actors and underlined the importance of sustained collaboration.

Suleiman stressed that governments, development partners and communities must work together to raise education standards and protect the future of vulnerable children across Nigeria.
