In a move targeted at easing financial pressures and promoting academic excellence, OPay Digital Services Limited has launched a ₦60 million scholarship programme for students of Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

The scheme was formally unveiled on Tuesday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the fintech company and the university, represented by Vice-Chancellor Prof Haruna Musa.

The initiative was facilitated by the Students’ Union Government (SUG), under the leadership of Abdullahi Usman Baba, in collaboration with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

Speaking at the ceremony, Musa commended OPay for selecting BUK as one of the beneficiaries. “This scholarship will go a long way in boosting the morale of our students. I urge the beneficiaries to use this opportunity wisely, and I encourage OPay to sustain this generous gesture,” he said.

OPay’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Mr. Itoro Udo, stated that the scholarship is part of the company’s commitment to youth empowerment through education, disclosing that BUK is among 20 Nigerian universities selected for the 10-year scheme, which will see 20 students receive ₦300,000 each annually.
