Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has announced plans to construct 500 housing units for its staff in a significant step to tackle the institution’s long-standing accommodation shortage.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Musa, disclosed this during the 2nd Registry Roundtable Discussion at the Senate Chamber, describing the initiative as one of the most ambitious welfare projects in the university’s history. He noted that the lack of adequate staff housing has been a challenge for decades.
Prof. Musa revealed that the university was already having those discussions with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), adding that a memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed soon.
He stressed that the housing plan is aimed at improving staff welfare, providing decent and affordable accommodation, and ultimately boosting productivity in the university. The project also marks one of the first significant achievements of Prof. Musa’s administration, coming less than a month after he assumed office as vice chancellor.
