Businessman Praises TETFund for Advancing Agriculture in Universities

Dr. Philips Nto

Dr Phillip Nto, the Director of the Agribusiness Incubation Centre (ABIC) at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), has expressed gratitude to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for its support in commercialising agriculture in Nigerian Universities. The educationist hopes that the scheme will help manage food security in the country while also creating employment opportunities for the youth.

Nto expressed this at Umudike as ABIC began the maiden harvest of fruits from its pineapple orchard. He stated that Arch. Sonny Echono, the current Executive Secretary of TETFUND, developed the idea of commercialising agriculture in universities, emphasising that it would be a game changer.

The Director emphasised that Echono has enabled universities to realise their full potential in supporting the government’s goal of achieving food security in Nigeria. Notably, he mentioned that he was able to attend a courtesy visit with the TETFund boss while also confirming that ABIC and MOUAU have developed several programmes designed to benefit the students and the host communities.
