The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria has honoured Dr Kevin Okonna, Acting Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron, with its Award for Distinguished Leadership in Logistics and Transport.
The recognition celebrates his transformative contributions to maritime education and institutional reform.
The award was presented at the 2025 CILT National Conference and Awards Ceremony in Lagos. CILT Nigeria President, Barr. Mfon Usoro, praised Okonna’s vision and commitment to repositioning the Academy as a global centre of excellence.
Okonna, who has served at MAN for over 30 years, expressed gratitude, noting that the recognition will further advance the Academy’s mandate to train world-class maritime professionals.
Since assuming office ten months ago, he has spearheaded infrastructure renewal, restored public power supply, upgraded teaching facilities, and initiated ISO certification processes.
His administration has also introduced new courses, improved staff and cadet welfare, and strengthened partnerships with international bodies, including the IMO, the Nautical Institute (UK), and IMarEST.
Observers credit Okonna with revitalising Nigeria’s oldest maritime training institution and establishing it as a regional hub for maritime competence.
