The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has applauded the Federal Government (FG) for the Tertiary Institution Staff Support Fund (TISSF) initiative for improving staff welfare.
In addition, the association urged the Federal Government to ensure that the fund does not shift attention from more pressing issues affecting universities. Dr Niyi Sunmonu, the CONUA National President, stressed that the academic workforce needs a sustainable welfare improvement, not just access to loan-based solutions. Sunmonu further pleaded with the government to settle all unpaid salaries of the CONUA members, especially as they have never declared or embarked on a strike action.
