Bayero University, Kano, will host its alumni this weekend for an annual general meeting that will focus on Nigeria’s ongoing corporate governance reforms.
The gathering, organised by the Bayero University Kano Alumni Association (BUKAA), will feature a keynote lecture on Saturday by Ambassador Shuaibu Adamu Ahmad, a member of the Federal Government’s Steering Committee for the National Code of Corporate Governance.
The lecture is expected to highlight efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability across the public and private sectors, at a time when governance standards remain under scrutiny.
BUKAA President, Alhaji Shuaibu Idris Mikati, stated that the meeting would provide alumni with an opportunity to contribute to national conversations while also supporting the growth of their alma mater. University Registrar Malam Haruna Aliyu welcomed the initiative, describing alumni engagement as vital to mentorship and institutional development.
Events begin with a dinner on Friday before the main meeting on Saturday morning. Senior figures, including the university’s Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor and council members, are expected to attend.
The association said it planned further discussions with the university leadership to deepen collaboration beyond the annual gathering.
