UNILAG’s DLI Hosts Special Staff Health Seminar on Managing Stress in an Open Distance Learning Environment
The Distance Learning Institute (DLI) of the University of Lagos has organised a health seminar on wellness and productivity in the academic environment for its staff.
Hosted on Friday, November 28, 2025, the seminar, themed ‘Managing Stress and Stressors in an Open Distance Learning Environment,’ was delivered by Dr B. O. Ojuroye, an Internal Medicine Nephrologist.
Ojuroye, in his presentation, discussed the effect of open distance learning (ODL) on global education, while noting that many students enrolled in the programme struggle with professional duties, academic demands, and family responsibilities. According to him, stressors in the ODL environment include social and emotional, academic, health-related, work-life balance, and technological stressors.
He recommended that the staff break large tasks into smaller parts, set realistic goals, establish a consistent weekly study schedule, and take regular breaks using the Pomodoro technique.
