The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has opened talks with the China National Chemical Engineering International Corporation Ltd (CNCEC) to strengthen cooperation in renewable energy development.
During a meeting at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, ECN Director-General, Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, and CNCEC’s Chief Representative for Africa, Edward Li Guosong, discussed areas of collaboration, including biofuels, solar mini-grids, and energy efficiency.
Dr Abdullahi reaffirmed ECN’s commitment to promoting clean, sustainable energy in Nigeria, noting that the Commission is currently implementing a national solarisation project to expand access to renewable power. “Our efforts are geared toward harnessing renewables to power inclusive growth,” he said.
Mr Li expressed CNCEC’s readiness to work with ECN on green energy projects, citing the company’s expertise in engineering and sustainable technologies.
To formalise the partnership, Dr Abdullahi announced the establishment of a committee to draft a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations. The collaboration is expected to boost Nigeria’s progress toward energy self-sufficiency and accelerate its transition to cleaner power sources.
