Ekiti State’s under-15 football team has finished as runners-up in the third season of the NSSF/NFF U-15 School Cup, which ended in Abuja on Thursday.
The team, representing the South West zone, lost 1-0 to Enugu in a closely fought final.
Guided by Coach Femi Kumuyi, the Ekiti boys had earlier put up strong performances to reach the national stage. They defeated the Federal Capital Territory 3-0, edged Taraba 1-0, and beat Kaduna by the same scoreline. A 1-1 draw with Delta left them top of their group with 10 points, securing a place in the final.
Speaking after the match, Kumuyi praised his players for their effort and discipline. “The boys gave their all and proved that Ekiti has the talent to produce some of Nigeria’s best footballers in the future,” he said.
The result marks a historic achievement for Ekiti, as the state continues to make progress in school sports development. The competition, jointly organised by the Nigeria School Sports Federation and the Nigeria Football Federation, is seen as a key platform for nurturing the country’s next generation of football talent.
