A senior dental surgeon with the Ekiti State Hospitals’ Management Board, Dr Clement Owoeye, has appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Olubunmi Shittu, to intervene after his son was denied admission to study Medicine and Surgery.
Speaking to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, Dr Owoeye said his son, David, scored 300 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and achieved an aggregate of 84 points. He applied to study Medicine at FUOYE, his first-choice institution, for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to him, the department’s cut-off mark was set at 84.65. Dr Owoeye argued that the marginal difference of 0.65 should not prevent his son’s admission, notably as only 16 candidates scored above the threshold. At the same time, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria has approved an intake of 50 students.
He appealed for consideration on the grounds of fairness and merit, urging the university authorities to ensure bright students are not denied opportunities to pursue their chosen careers.
