Renowned historian Professor Toyin Falola has called on the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, to focus on education, security, and the welfare of the people as he prepares to ascend the throne.
Falola, regarded as the most cited African historian, said these areas are critical to restoring sanity and driving development in Ibadan. He stressed that meaningful progress in the ancient city depends on substantial investments in human capital and community safety.
The advice was given during the maiden Olubadan coronation lecture, where Falola emphasised the need for traditional leadership to address modern challenges. He urged Ladoja to make education a central priority, noting that a knowledgeable and secure society will enjoy faster growth.
The lecture set the tone for Ladoja’s forthcoming coronation, with expectations that his reign would usher in reforms to improve the lives of Ibadan’s residents.
