The FCT College of Nursing Sciences, Gwagwalada, has matriculated 246 students, as stakeholders called for stronger government support and a legal framework to back its operations.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, said the administration was committed to expanding health manpower and improving medical training across the territory.
Provost of the College, Dr Deborah Yusuf, described the event as a milestone in the institution’s efforts to train skilled and compassionate nurses and midwives. She urged the students to maintain discipline and integrity, warning that “plagiarism and negligence have no place in nursing.”
Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, FCT Council, Mr Jema Medan, appealed to the National Assembly to fast-track the law establishing the college to give it legal status.
Yusuf also urged the FCT Administration to include the college in its ongoing infrastructural projects, describing it as the only government-owned institution dedicated to nurse and midwife training in the capital.
