Federal Government Begins Admission Into 34 Tech Colleges

Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa

The Federal Government has started admitting pioneer students into 34 Federal Technical Colleges across Nigeria.

Education Minister Dr Morufu Alausa made this known during the launch of the selection process at the NABTEB headquarters in Benin City. Represented by Dr Muyibat Olodo, he explained that the exercise follows the new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme launched in May 2025.

Students will be admitted based on merit and performance in the June 14 NABTEB examination. Alausa said the government’s free tuition policy is helping to change negative public views about technical education. Two new colleges in Enugu and Plateau states are set to commence in 2026, bringing the total to 34. Three more are planned.

The government is also converting science and technical colleges into full technical colleges and has introduced a National Policy on Skills Development. NABTEB Registrar, Prof. Mohammed Mohammed, urged transparency in the selection process to give young Nigerians equal opportunities.
