The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has warned that any university, polytechnic, or college of education misusing its funds may be blacklisted.

Speaking at a workshop in Abuja, TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, stated that schools that fail to utilise or manage their funds properly will be removed from the list of beneficiaries. He explained that the warning is not a punishment, but a means to ensure that government support yields genuine improvements.

Echono noted that the two-day training was designed to help school officials better understand how to manage the funds. He also announced the suspension of foreign scholarships from 2025, due to high costs and cases of scholars not returning to their home countries.

He added that, in place of foreign scholarships, TETFund will now focus on local training and provide more funding for research and innovation. The fund aims to address real-world problems in areas such as health, agriculture, and technology by fostering stronger partnerships between schools and industry.
