The federal government (FG) has declared a seven-year temporary suspension for the establishment of new federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The development came in the bid to stop the increase in under-utilised institutions and redirect resources to improve existing ones.
Sharing his thoughts on the decision, Dr Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, said the uncontrolled establishment of federal tertiary institutions has caused inadequate staffing, poor infrastructure, and inefficiencies. He added that the suspension will allow the government to use available resources to recruit qualified staff, upgrade facilities, and increase the capacity of current federal tertiary institutions.
