The Federal Ministry of Education has commended the Federal University Otuoke (FUO) in Bayelsa State for implementing positive changes and maintaining transparency in its management of the institution. A team from the ministry, led by Mr. Owolabi Charles, visited the university on June 16, 2025. They came to check how well the school is following the government’s advice and rules.
Mr. Owolabi applauded FUO’s efforts in financial discipline, staff restructuring, and academic expansion. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Teddy Charles Adias, reported that the school now runs 53 accredited programmes across 11 faculties and has introduced an automated payment system to improve accountability.
However, the panel raised concerns about a past Governing Council meeting held in Lagos and some abandoned capital projects, including a library and hostel started in 2012. The Vice-Chancellor blamed poor oversight by the Ministry and NDDC. Despite these issues, the panel noted FUO’s potential and advised the university to pursue Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to support its development goals.
