The Federal Government, through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), says it is committed to reducing the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria. Speaking at a staff retreat in Kano, UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, said the goal is to ensure 100% access to basic education and improve its quality nationwide.
Garba highlighted achievements, including the construction of over 3,700 classrooms, the provision of 142,000 furniture units, and the establishment of 34 model and SMART schools. Over 181,000 learners have benefited from this initiative so far. She added that UBEC is also training teachers through its Professional Development Programme to enhance learning across schools.
The retreat aimed to review progress and set new goals for the next six to twelve months. Garba emphasised the importance of collaboration between national and state education boards to achieve these goals and enhance education for every Nigerian child.
