Jigawa Government Suspends Four Education Secretaries for Hiding Absentee Teachers

The Executive Chairman of the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Haruna Musa,

The Jigawa State Government has suspended four Local Government Education Secretaries for protecting teachers who have been absent from school duties for months.

According to Professor Haruna Musa, the Executive Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), the suspended secretaries are from Kirikasamma, Auyo, Miga, and Maigatari local government areas. He said their suspension followed findings that they were shielding some teachers who had not shown up at work for over six months.

Prof. Haruna revealed that the salaries of 239 teachers had already been stopped due to absconding, and more cases were discovered during his recent visit to Miga. He found five additional truant teachers whose names were not reported by the education secretaries. He warned that strict monitoring would continue across all 27 local governments and urged the public to report any misconduct by teachers. He added that more suspensions would follow if others were found guilty.
