Jigawa Government Discovers 245 Ex-Teachers Receiving Salaries

The Jigawa State Government has exposed 245 teachers receiving salaries after leaving their jobs.

In an interview, Haruna Musa, the State Universal Basic Education Board’s (SUBEB) Chairperson, said, “It is unfortunate for a teacher to be away from school for seven to 10 years. I have gotten somebody who has not been in school for 14 years and is collecting a salary every month.”

Musa emphasised that the teachers will not be pardoned and the government will recover from them the payment they received without discharging any duties.  He added that some of the teachers working elsewhere but still receiving salaries from the Jigawa Government will be allowed to return and do their work because they are qualified teachers.
